CYCLING NEWS

SATURDAY AM "FINISH LINE"

For those who are regular participants in the 6:15AM ride on Saturdays, you may have noted that the group is getting bigger and riding very well.  It has been suggested that for the conclusion of the fast part of the ride (notice that I'm avoiding saying "end of the race" as it is not a Race), participants use the Aberfeldy sign on The Lane and cool down along East Broadway and Front Street.

RACING MATTERS

SOUTHSIDE ROAD RACE THIS SUNDAY

The 4th race of the points series events is this Sunday at Southside starting at 8:30AM.  The course will start at Pizza House and head up to the White's roundabout, back down the hill, turn right before tennis courts, around roundabout to Clearwater Beach, through the parking lot and back the way you came.  Number of laps for each category will be advised at the start.

Race directors are Tab Froud, Pam Froud, Phil Trussell and Nick Greet.  If you are able to volunteer then please contact Tab at  tfroud@brcl.bm.   Remember, all racers are required to prvide two volunteers to the points series races in the season.

SINCLAIR PACKWOOD MEMORIAL RACE

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS, INVITES, REQUESTS  & SPONSORS

QUALIFYING

As always, there is a limit of 60 riders for this prestigious  race and if you want to be a part of it then make sure you meet the standard.

First, the race is open only to those who are BBA members.

Second, you must be racing in any of the adult categories or Junior A.

Third, you must have finished 2 of the 2009 road race series races.  The Tuesday training crits do not count towards the number of races.

If we have open spots after taking all those who have met the three criteria and want to ride the race directors (BBA Executive Committee) will offer spots to others who express an interest in racing the event at their discretion.  If you want to enjoy the thrill of this event and don't want to be subject to the whims of 5 grumpy guys then get racing.  The remaining event that will get you qualified is the road race on May17th.

Picture of the week

Sarah Bonnett has developed a new technology for creating the lightest bike possible.  She has completely eliminated the wheels in an effort to gain an advantage.  This design has yet to be road tested.

But really, Sarah skipped the crit on Tuesday and wound up doling out wheels as riders came in with flats.  Wayne Scott got the front and Chequan Richardson took the back wheel.  Good news is that she didn't have to spend an hour cleaning her bike like 32 others who raced at Morgan's Point last night.
