RACING MATTERS

FATHER'S DAY ROAD RACE

This Sunday we are trying to hold a point to point road race with the support of the police.  We are still awaiting one or two approvals and, assuming they come through, the event will be as follows:

Start: 6:30AM for race briefing with police and 7:00 start.  If you do not attend the entire briefing you will not be allowed to start.

Entry Fee: $10 per rider, payable at the start line.

Route: Flagpole in Hamilton, Pitts Bay Road, North Shore to St. David's Roundabout, back to Wilkinson Avenue, Paynter's Road, South Road, finish at Botanical Gardens.

Eligibility: This event is only for those riding in Male/Female A & B.  No junior category riders will be permitted to participate.

Afterwards: The Planet Coffee truck will be at the finish for post-race refreshment.  A group ride open to all cyclists will start at approximately 8:30AM, following the race and refreshments.

Please remember that this is an initial attempt at having races with police escort.  Failure to race within the race rules stated at the race briefing will jeopardize future events.

If we do not get the final necessary approvals then we will circulate a note to all via email and a group ride will take place.

STAGE RACE RESULTS

The 3 stage event went well this past weekend, despite a crash in the Male B race of the Morgan's Point morning.  Thanks to all who helped with finish line, marshaling, race directors and medical staff.  Special thanks to Steve "Personal EMT to the BBA" Gunn who took care of Padraic Browne and Jason Piney after the crash.  Padraic separated something in his shoulder and according to Madison team medical consultant Phil Trussell he will be better in a few weeks.  Jason, after sweeping the corner with just about every exposed surface of his body, has some new skin growing, a fracture somewhere in his hip and will require a new bike frame.

Stage 1 - Morgan's Point Circuit

Stage 2 - Ft. Knox Criterium

Stage 3 - Control Tower Hill Climb

RACE NUMBERS

Please remember to bring your assigned race number for each road series event.  Numbers are not to be folded or reduced in size at it makes it difficult to read and therefore less likely that you will be scored accurately.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND - REGISTRATION

The Time Trial and Road Race championships will be held on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, respectively.  Below is the registration form and you must sign up by June 25.  There is one form for both events but you don't have to do both.

The Time trial starts very early on Saturday to avoid traffic so set your alarm!  This year we are having one race for adult men and one for adult women.  No adult category races.  There is also a junior championship race  plus we will have races for junior b and c.

Picture of the week

After his "off piste" adventure on Sunday morning, Padraic Browne was found relaxing in the shrubbery where he was attended to by Steve Gunn.  We're sure that is a smile so Steve must have something special in his medical bag of tricks.  No similar photos were captured of Jason or Spike, both of whom had sudden cycle separation incidents.  This picture was taken by Podge's compassionate teammate Phil Trussell who advises that "he was quite enjoying the lie down."
