BUTTERFIELD BERMUDA GRAND PRIX REGISTRATION OPEN

Registration for the 2009 Butterfield Bermuda Grand Prix is now open and will be done online. Click on the link below and you will be taken to the BikeReg.com site. If this is your first time using BikeReg you will need to set up an account, a very easy process.
Categories for the race will be the same as last year and the adult categories look like the BBA categories. But be warned, if you are a struggling BBA Male A then you should consider riding Male B in this event as Male A will include riders from overseas who are closer to the top end of our local racing.

The guy who rode his road frame in mountain biking events and showed us all how great sleeve tattoos can be is departing Bermuda for British Columbia. Dave Collins is heading to Canada this weekend to pursue another degree. We're sorry to see him go as he brought great excitement to the MTB season and made huge progress through the road races and time trials. Rumor has it that he will come back and visit around Christmas to contest a few MTB events after racing cyclo-cross this fall.
GOT TIME? GOT BIKES?
The schools cycling programs have been a great success so far and we are looking to build on this in the 2009/10 school year. Already Bermuda Institute has started a club for their middle years students under the leadership of teacher and MTB guru Fred Swan. And the new Sandy's 360 community centre at Sandy's Secondary is interested in an after school program of cycling. Add a new MSA group lead by Vanessa Madeiros and the numbers of junior riders are exploding.
The BBA has received several dozen donated bikes over the last year and we expect every single one to be utilized within the coming month. So, we need more! If you or someone you know has an unused bike that is functional and would be willing to make a donation to this project then please contact me at president@bermudabicycle.org. With BI starting a MTB program it might be prudent to start accepting mountain bikes as well. Please keep in mind that smaller sizes (road up to 58, MTB up to 19?) are most likely to fit.
And if we have not asked for enough already, maybe you know of someone who would like to get involved in leading/starting a program. Generally these programs start at 3:30 or 4:00 in the afternoon so if you work traditional hours this is a challenge. But maybe you work shifts or know of someone else who is interested in cycling and could be available. And possibly your employer would let you out early for a community service project such as this. If you have any thoughts then please let me know. |
