JR CCC VIDEO PRODUCED

BBA member and professional videographer Hector Osuna-Diaz put together a great video of our team during the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships and it can be found online at http://virb.com/panatel/videos/4557576

GOT TIME?  GOT BIKES?

The schools cycling programs have been a great success so far and we are looking to build on this in the 2009/10 school year.  Already Bermuda Institute has started a club for their middle years students under the leadership of teacher and MTB guru Fred Swan.  And the new Sandy's 360 community centre at Sandy's Secondary is interested in an after school program of cycling.  Add a new MSA group lead by Vanessa Madeiros and the numbers of junior riders are exploding.

The BBA has received several dozen donated bikes over the last year and we expect every single one to be utilized within the coming month.  So, we need more!  If you or someone you know has an unused bike that is functional and would be willing to make a donation to this project then please contact me at president@bermudabicycle.org.  With BI starting a MTB program it might be prudent to start accepting mountain bikes as well.  Please keep in mind that smaller sizes (road up to 58, MTB up to 19?) are most likely to fit.

And if we have not asked for enough already, maybe you know of someone who would like to get involved in leading/starting a program.  Generally these programs start at 3:30 or 4:00 in the afternoon so if you work traditional hours this is a challenge.  But maybe you work shifts or know of someone else who is interested in cycling and could be available.  And possibly your employer would let you out early for a community service project such as this.  If you have any thoughts then please let me know.

BANK OF BERMUDA FOUNDATION TRIATHLON NEARS

For those of you who have honed their TT skills of double as a triathlete, race directors Chris Page and Ian Pilgrim invite you to enter the 2009 Bank of Bermuda Foundation Triathlon.  Details on the event and registration can be found at http://bta.bm/pages/2009/27sept.html.  If you are looking for a swimmer or runner to round out your team then contact Chris  (cp@transact.bm) or Ian (ipilgrim@mayflower.bm) and they will hook you up with some quality athletes.

RACING MATTERS

VICTORIA PARK CRIT RESULTS

It was another great event around Victoria Park on Sunday and the racing was furious.  Full category results can be found below as well as links to Simon Parker's photographs from the day.  Thanks to race directors Glenn Franklin, Darren "Shakey" Glasford and Undray Hill as well as all those who volunteered.

NEXT CRIT, SESSIONS HOUSE - NEW COURSE

Another new crit course is on tap for this Sunday.  Jeff has convinced the Corporation of Hamilton to permit a loop starting on Reid Street in front of the House of Parliament, right on Parliament St, Right on Church St, right on North St and right on Reid St.  Looks like fun!  Racing will start at 8:00AM and the categories start times will be:

8:00AM - Male B, Junior A and Female B - 30 min + 1 lap
8:35AM - Junior B and Junior C - 20 & 15 min + 1 lap
9:00AM - Male A and Female A - 40 min + 1 lap

Please come out and help with marshalling the other category races, either before or after your event.  The more, the merrier.  Race director Norbert Meyer could use your assistance.

STUFF FOR SALE OR OTHER

If you have a bike (road or mountain) in working condition but is just sitting there, neglected and unused, please consider donating it to the BBA for use in the schools programs.

Picture of the week

Apparently we may have to start a new category of photos: Weird Bikes Seen While On Vacation.  Izabella Arnold and Scott Mello each submitted pics from their holidays (taken separately).  Izzy's is of a Godfrey-like family trying to take every bicycle they can find on their family outing.  Maybe this is Arnold vacation vehicle?  At least 9 bikes outside the car.

Scott, on a jaunt to Paris (France, not Texas) spied the Dr. Frankenstein creation below.  Allegedly the owner was heard to utter something that roughly translates to "don't criticize until you have tried it" but with less words, a jesture and a sneer.

If you want to submit a picture or two for the next newsletter then please forward the image to newsletter@bermudabicycle.org.
