CYCLING NEWS

TRUNK ISLAND SWIM

Pam Froud has asked us to remind you that the annual Trunk Island Swim will take place on October 11th.  You can get all the details and register at raceday.bm

SATURDAY MORNING GROUP RIDE ALTERNATIVE

Not everyone likes to get up for the 6:15AM group ride that leaves from "Johnny Barnes" roundabout each Saturday.  Kym Burns and Steve Dean have an alternative that may be of interest.  Departing at 7:30AM from the South Road roundabout on Trimmingham Hill, the ride is described as "a moderate ride to Dockyard, coffee at Miles in Town then a second loop to Swizzle Inn, time and energy permitting. Fair weather riders." Questions? Contact Kym at kymburns@logic.bm

FOOTBALL? - The Bermuda Cyclists Charity Cup Football Challenge

Team Bicycle Works Presented by Altree Financial are challenging all cyclists to a fun 4 a side football challenge in November. It will be held indoors with each team fielding four players on a rolling basis (you can sub as often as you like). The games will be 10 mins each way with the two top teams playing a 15 min each way final. The entry fee will be $20 per person with all these funds going to St John’s Ambulance Service to recognize their contribution to sports in Bermuda.
We would hope that all cycling teams – Winners Edge, Madison, Tokio, Salty Dogs (as well as others who can make up teams ) will come forward and take the challenge. Feel free to make up as many teams as you like – the more the merrier.
Once we have an idea of the numbers we will look for a Sunday afternoon in early November (seasons over so no injury concerns!!!!!) There will be a pot luck BBQ after the event. Bring the family and support this great event.
Please confirm your participation by e-mailing (one per team) ride@bicycleworks.bm.  We will then advise of the date.

RACING MATTERS

ANOTHER OPEN ROAD RACE

Mr Amaral and his friends in the police service are up to their tricks again with a second open road race this Sunday!  The race will start in Hamilton by the flagpole at 7:00AM but you must sign the waiver and pay your $10 entry fee by 6:45AM.  Same course as last time, ending at South Road entrance to the Botanical Gardens.  Coffee and tasty things available at the finish.  Please note that this is only open to riders who have been racing in the Male/Female A or B categories.  Anyone who is under the age of 18 on race day is required to have the waiver signed by a parent of guardian. For those who are well organized the waiver wording is below and you could speed up the process by completing it an bringing it with you.  Do not put it or race fees in the BBA boxes.

Open Road Race Waiver - N.B. no waiver, no race.

FINAL ROAD RACE SERIES RESULTS

Thanks to Chelsea and Spike (and all of their generous volunteers) for organizing the final race of the points series last weekend. As always, the Millington Course was a good challenge and is sure to be repeated in the next season.  Full race results are below.  The final point series standings are being massaged so as to give the BBA Executive as good a placing as possible and these will be produced next week.

Picture of the week

Dave Collins has sent in the shot below of his recent 50K MTB race, done with just 2 loops! It appears that there is plenty of space in BC for a course of this size.  DC advises it took almost 5 hours to complete in the rain.  Do the math, about 10kph, 6mph! All that studying must be slowing him down!
