CYCLING NEWS

SUNDAY AM MTB RIDE

Anyone interested in doing some mountian bike rides is welcome to join an 8AM departure from the flagpole on Front Street on Sundays.  This week the group will head east to Ferry Reach, hit the trails and return west.  For those who want to avoid the prolonged warm up, meet at Ferry Reach Park around 8:45.

SATURDAY MORNING GROUP RIDE ALTERNATIVE

Not everyone likes to get up for the 6:15AM group ride that leaves from "Johnny Barnes" roundabout each Saturday.  Kym Burns and Steve Dean have an alternative that may be of interest.  Departing at 7:30AM from the South Road roundabout on Trimmingham Hill, the ride is described as "a moderate ride to Dockyard, coffee at Miles in Town then a second loop to Swizzle Inn, time and energy permitting. Fair weather riders." Questions? Contact Kym at kymburns@logic.bm

FOOTBALL? - The Bermuda Cyclists Charity Cup Football Challenge

Team Bicycle Works Presented by Altree Financial are challenging all cyclists to a fun 4 a side football challenge in November. It will be held indoors with each team fielding four players on a rolling basis (you can sub as often as you like). The games will be 10 mins each way with the two top teams playing a 15 min each way final. The entry fee will be $20 per person with all these funds going to St John’s Ambulance Service to recognize their contribution to sports in Bermuda.
We would hope that all cycling teams – Winners Edge, Madison, Tokio, Salty Dogs (as well as others who can make up teams ) will come forward and take the challenge. Feel free to make up as many teams as you like – the more the merrier.
Once we have an idea of the numbers we will look for a Sunday afternoon in early November (seasons over so no injury concerns!!!!!) There will be a pot luck BBQ after the event. Bring the family and support this great event.
Please confirm your participation by e-mailing (one per team) ride@bicycleworks.bm.  We will then advise of the date.

RACING MATTERS

ANOTHER OPEN ROAD RACE, ANOTHER SUCCESS

Between Jeff Amaral and Shakee Glasford it looks like the open road races may be a more regular feature of the racing scene next year.  Great job by both these guys to get one of the more exciting events of the year going so well.  Now, if they can do anything about the distance ........

Congrats to Garth for taking the win ahead of breakaway partner Brian Drea.  These two plus third place Arthur Pitcher were given some fancy high-tech prizes by Karl Outerbridge who drove the lead vehicle containing Earl Basden, Hector Osuna (is there a video in production?) and Mark Godfrey.  Thanks to these guys for their support in the race.

Did anyone see Miguel Butterfield atop his high lift at the finish line?  I wonder what happend to the video he was taking?

And what about those policemen who gave such fantastic support?  Next time they stop you to give a ticket, take it smiling!

FINAL ROAD RACE SERIES STANDINGS

After six months of furious competition the road race season has concluded and a team of accountants, actuaries and diagnostic technicians has reviewed the race results and produced the final standings of the road race series.  The full report is below and thanks go to Rodney Davies for compiling all the data single handed.  Plus all those other people who provided such quality data.  The awards will be presented at the dinner on November 21st.
